ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Welcome to Episode 45 of the Voices Of Boyle Podcast!
Welcome to Episode 45! Today I’m chatting with Dermot Leyden (or DJ Dermot as some of you might know him!).
Although Dermot is orgininally from Arigna, he is a long time resident of Boyle and a familiar face that everyone knows.
In this episode, I had a great chat with Dermot about his love of photography, his love for Boyle and Arigna and we chat about his two Facebook pages; Memory Radio Boyle and Best of Memories.
We talk about Dermot’s broadcasting career and his escapades working on Shannonside back in the station’s early days. We talk about his love for radio and what it took to create an internet radio station and how it opened up doors to meeting so many wonderful people.
Dermot’s grand-dad and father played a big role is his love for radio and photography and we talk about his own love for his grand-kids and the hopes he has for their future.
Finally, as he is one of Boyle’s most well-known DJs, it wouldn’t be a proper chat if we didn’t dive into some of the shenanigans that used to go on in Parkers and the Royal Hotel!!
So grab a cuppa and enjoy this trip down memory lane with one of Boyle’s most well-known faces.

“These are the decks Dermot used in the Royal Hotel .The futuristic part on the mixer was the auto-fade which lowered the music volume automatically when you talked on the Mic. AI of its time!”

Hay rolled in Arigna Co.Roscommon with a Massey Ferguson 35 and Farendlose Hay raker.
Dermot drew inspiration from John Hinde postcards he saw in Christy Wynne’s shop.
Another one of John Hinde’s postcards. He was well-known for his use of the primary colours in his work.
Dermot has a great love for landscape photography. Pictured is the Blue Bell Woods just outside of Boyle.
Thanks to Brendan O’ Dowd for creating and recording the musical piece for the podcast.
