Welcome to Episode 59 of the Voices Of Boyle Podcast!

This week on the Voices of Boyle, we’re delighted to feature the story of local artist Margaret Rattigan, whose creative work is a testament to the vibrant artistic spirit of Boyle and the surrounding areas.

Born in Manchester and raised in Leitrim, Margaret’s journey has taken her to London, Limerick, and Sligo. Yet, it’s Boyle that she now calls home—a move inspired by family and work, and one that has provided her with a strong sense of belonging.

Boyle, with its rich history and beautiful landscapes, has been a constant source of inspiration for Margaret’s art. We specifically talk about Lough Key Forest Park, the oldest bridge in Ireland and a local cherryblossom tree that formed the inspiration for one of Margaret’s most-loved paintings.

Her creative spark has been with her since childhood. She’s always loved to draw, sketch, and make things, and her passion extended into music, sewing, and photography. Art college was once a dream, but like many, life had other plans.

It wasn’t until the stillness of the pandemic that Margaret returned to painting with full focus. What began as a creative outlet in 2020 has led to a beautiful collection of paintings, prints, cards, and art jewellery that’s now available to buy.

This is an episode filled with inspiration and it was lovely to get a perspective from a local who hasn’t always called Boyle home.

I hope you enjoy listening!
