About This Episode
Welcome to Episode 23 of the Voices Of Boyle Podcast!
Today’s guest is Jane Suffin (or Sharkey as lots of people would know/remember her!). We were delighted to sit down and chat with Jane about her early years growing up in England and what it was like to leave Manchester and come home to Boyle to spend time in the great outdoors with her friends and family members.
We chat about Dudley and Annie (Jane’s grand-parents) and their escapades playing music around the country with other local musicians. Boyle was a different place back then and we talk about how free children were to roam the fields and explore. In Jane’s words – “You only went home if you were on all fours with hunger!!”.
Termon Road will always be home to Jane and we chat about some of her favourite people in the area and the role that they played in creating a community spirit like no other.
Boyle’s rich fishing heritage then comes into conversation and Jane takes us through the different competitions that their club plays host to every year. We also talk about the cemetery and the importance of maintaining the graves in Assylynn so we can preserve the history of Boyle’s people for generations to come.
On that note…grab a cuppa and sit and enjoy a chat with Jane!
Thanks to Brendan O’ Dowd for creating and recording the musical piece for the podcast.
